Having Life Totally Figured Out

It can be daunting to not know what to expect tomorrow. Worse still, to have one’s plans totally go south after a well thought out planning process and having carefully arranged all of one’s ducks in row. But do you know what? God hasn’t called us to a life where we have it all figured out. He has called us to Obedience – obedience to every word He says and every word spoken in His word. This is the highest form of trust as the Bible has rightly said that His word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). He has called us to a life where we trust him not because we know the next step to take but because we know He has walked that road ahead of us, therefore He goes ahead and walks beside us whilst being our rear guard (Isaiah 52:12).

You know it is very easy to confuse trusting your tomorrow to God with trusting your tomorrow on your “well thought out plans”. But let me let you in on a truth; when you get to the point when you allow your beautifully well crafted plans to lay loosely in the hands of God and depending solely on what His word says, then and only then do you begin to truly live. You start to enjoy life unapologetically with zero zilch fear of the world around you collapsing like a two-dollar suitcase. Oh and that world which you are trying to hold so tightly onto, if I must add is very transient just incase you do not know. Yes, you may not always get things right all the time, but the one thing to do continually is this: “commit your works to the Lord and your plans will be established” (Proverbs 16:3).

This post is not to in any way shade working hard/smart, neither is it to encourage laziness or complacency. Rather, it is to encourage you to know that your life can only be meaningful when you learn to reside in the vine as a branch that you are. A branch does not know how the nutrients are manufactured by the vine but it sure must be wise enough to stay attached to the vine so as to receive nutrient, support, stability and all its goodness so it can be healthy and productive. Jesus had this to say in John 15:5 – “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in Him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing”. You cannot live life in your own terms and call yourself a Christian; the life you should be living shouldn’t be yours any longer (See Galatians 2:20), so why hold on to the things in it like your life depends on it? Well, unless you died for your own sins though.

Say Out Loud: I will hold my plans loosely before God so He can interrupt the process anyway and anytime. I will stay attached to the vine because that is the only way I get to have my life totally figured out.
